OHIO University is seeking qualified applicants for the Accountant/Sr Accountant Series.
Established in 1804, OHIO University is the oldest public institution of higher learning in the state of Ohio & the first in the Northwest Territory. Located in the scenic Appalachian foothills, it’s classic residential campus in Athens, Ohio, is one of the most attractive in the nation.
This is a Series position.
Accountant- Provides assistance with general accounting activities (ex: month-end and year-end close), support for reporting requirements (ex. financial statements, Board of Regents reporting, Board and internal management report preparation), and internal control activities to ensure integrity of financial information as well as good internal control practices.
Position works with oversight of the Associate Controller/Controller in documenting policy and procedure issues that support the integrity of the financial information. Broad authority in reviewing day to day processes and making improvement recommendations. Serves as a main point of contact for the customers as it relates to proper accounting treatment of day to day transactions.
Senior Accountant – Performs professional accounting work of a complex nature. Use FASB and/or GASB to determine appropriate accounting and reporting treatment to remain in compliance. Must be familiar with state, federal and organization policy, procedure and regulations as well as restrictions on funds and must be able to incorporate these external guidelines into practice. Monitors compliance with through analysis, verification and reporting functions. Advises management of issues and provides solutions to resolve. May serve as lead or resource on special projects related to position duties.
Position works with some oversight of Associate Controller. Position has the ability to interpret and make decisions on various matters. Has the ability to implement corrective action solutions to ensure that objectives of service, compliance and best practices are met.

Required Qualifications:
Accountant
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- 2+ years experience in accounting or equivalent combination of experience and education
- 1+ years experience mining database/system for standard and ad hoc reporting needs
- At least 1 year experience using an ERP system (i.e. Oracle, PeopleSoft, Banner)
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint
Senior Accountant
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- 3+ years experience in accounting and reporting
- 2+ years experience operating within an ERP solution including use of a reporting and query tool
- Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP)
- Fluency in excel and ability to adapt to various software applications
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
Accountant
- CPA and/or MBA
Senior Accountant
- CPA and/or MBA
- Working knowledge of GASB
