Posting Number: 3284 Department: Counseling and Psych Services Pay Rate: Competitive and Commensurate with experience Pay Basis: Annual Pay Grade: ADMIN & PROFESSIONAL|89| Job Type: Administrative Job Category: Full Time Permanent Planning Unit: Vice President for Student Affairs Job Description The Ohio University Division of Student Affairs seeks an enthusiastic and experienced counselor and administrator to lead Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) as director.
CPS is comprehensive university counseling center located in rural Southeastern Ohio. Because of the limited availability of external counseling resources, CPS provides individual, group, and couples counseling as well as outreach and consultation to the Ohio University main campus and the regional campuses.
The center is currently staffed with two part-time psychiatrists and 7 licensed psychologists and counselors. The center also serves as an APPIC approved pre-doctoral internship (3 positions), and a practicum training site for graduate students in counseling and psychology.
The director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) is the primary administrator of Ohio University's comprehensive college counseling services. A licensed therapist, the director is a practitioner/scholar who will have demonstrated the ability to provide direct services; identify and attain service objectives; direct strategic planning and goal setting; supervise doctoral and master's level counseling, psychology and social work students in conjunction with the professional staff; coordinate emergency and crisis mental health services; effectively allocate resources and collaborate with faculty, student affairs staff and other administrative colleagues to assist students with issues related to their retention and academic success. The successful director candidate must also exhibit a strong commitment to diversity and multicultural competency. In consultation with the staff, the director will develop and implement the philosophy, policies, and procedures for counseling service operations.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Knowledge of college mental health, college student development and the student affairs field; - Abilities and attributes that enable effective representation of mental health issues in the university or college community; - Commitment to an environment of inclusion and diversity; - Personal qualities and skills that enable effective interaction with, and the ability to gain the respect of, counseling staff, colleagues, administrators, faculty, staff, and students; - A commitment to a liberal arts education
Required Qualifications:
A minimum of 3 years of leadership experience in an administrative/supervisory capacity and 5-7 years professional experience in a university counseling center required. An earned doctorate from an accredited university in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, counselor education, or other closely related discipline is required. Candidates must be licensed or licensed eligible to practice in the State of Ohio within 6 months of hire. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a large, comprehensive counseling center is preferred.
