Job Seeker Success

When Mike Porter, 60 year old Chillicothe native, decided to look for employment in his home-town, he knew he would have to be patient and research area businesses to see who was hiring, and what they needed.

After some research, Mike decided to persue a 'retirement job' as he refers to it, and obtained his CDL and Hazmat certification to drive trucks. After his graduation from Southern State Technical with his additional license', he went to work for Schneider Trucking to gain some over-the-road (OTR) experience. "Most of the employers that needed truck drivers' required 1 to 2 years OTR experience plus I wanted to get miles under my belt before working locally." Mike said.

After 11 months with Schneider, Mike started looking for local opportunities. As luck would have it, Petron Oil had posted a position on the Job Bank asking for a Driver, so he made a phone call. He was interviewed 2 days later and he was hired on the spot by Jim Doersam, President of Petron Oil.

Mike says after years of being on the road and traveling with consulting and driving, he is glad to be able to be working locally at a great company like Petron Oil.
